SISMA Mission

The mission statement of the South Dakota Invasive Species Management Association is to provide a coordinated effort to manage invasive species in the state of South Dakota and surrounding states to protect and preserve South Dakota’s natural resource, agricultural lands, and economy.

SISMA Vision

Invasive Species know no social or political boundaries.

·        To unite private and public entities and resources into an inclusive and cooperative invasive species management approach.

·        To establish state and interstate coalitions, and partnerships between county, state and federal agencies, and between industry, government and the scientific community for integrated and cost-effective management programs.

·        To develop comprehensive and integrated long-term planning objectives that incorporates regional trends and patterns, and establishes annual working goals.

·        To provide progressive and innovative leadership in management objectives, scientific exploration, and governmental authority and appropriations through education and networking in local, regional and national forums.

·        To provide an effective early detection and rapid response to eradicate new invasive species.

·        To be actively engaged in invasive species organizations, and provide assistance on the myriad of management challenges.

·        To publish and distribute successful management techniques and experiences.

·        To promote new methods and techniques in invasive species management. To encourage public awareness and participation in invasive species management and appreciation of the vital role it plays in a preservation of the natural landscape and its productivity in recreation and agriculture.
